Three New Massachusetts Leadership Evaluation Rubrics Available on the SuperEval Platform

We’re excited to announce the addition of three reliable evaluation rubrics to the SuperEval platform, crafted to provide meaningful, comprehensive feedback and support for educational leaders. Here’s a quick overview of each new rubric:

1. Indicator Rubric for Superintendent Evaluation – The Indicator Rubric for Superintendent Evaluation is a streamlined evaluation tool developed to support consistent, effective assessment of superintendents by school committees. Based on 21 key indicators within the Massachusetts Standards of Effective Administrative Leadership, it focuses on the superintendent’s high-level responsibilities rather than management details, helping school committees emphasize governance over daily operations. This rubric guides committees to assess instructional leadership, management, family and community engagement, and professional culture. It simplifies evaluation while ensuring transparency and integrity in the public process, supporting alignment with district goals and community expectations​.
2. Superintendent and District Administrator Rubric – The Superintendent and District Administrator Rubric from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education serves as a tool for evaluating leadership effectiveness. Organized around four key standards—Instructional Leadership, Management and Operations, Family and Community Engagement, and Professional Culture—the rubric aims to define and assess critical leadership skills and practices. It provides performance descriptors across four levels (Unsatisfactory, Needs Improvement, Proficient, and Exemplary) for each indicator, facilitating consistent evaluation and targeted professional growth. Emphasis is placed on aligning leadership practices with district goals, fostering equitable outcomes, and promoting a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
3. School Level Administrator Rubric – The School Level Administrator Rubric for Educator Evaluation (updated June 2023) outlines standards for effective school leadership, emphasizing inclusive and equitable practices. Developed with input from educators, students, and families, it focuses on four core standards:
   1. Instructional Leadership
   2. Management and Operations
   3. Family and Community Engagement
   4. Professional Culture.

Each standard includes indicators with performance levels ranging from Unsatisfactory to Exemplary. The rubric aids in consistent evaluation, guiding goal-setting, professional development, and continuous improvement, particularly addressing equity and cultural responsiveness to better serve diverse student populations.
